I've written before about the group I belong to - we've been together for about 10 years now. We meet monthly to sew and eat and solve the problems of the world. These girls are my best friends! Can't imagine not knowing them.
At our December get-together, we swapped gifts and worked on our tumbler charm quilts. I'm sure I mentioned sometime in the past about our year-long charm swap - we designated a specific color for each month of the year and swapped a dozen charm squares (5") in that color with each other at our meetings. So in theory we all had the same fabrics to make our quilts, and we had the pattern and acrylic templates to cut the pieces for our quilts. I got my top finished, and so did my friend B. Here's her quilt top:
That's only a portion of it - the pieces are about 3" and I think we counted 720 or so pieces for the top. (the pattern was in a quilt calendar) They will all look similar but not identical since we didn't place every piece in the same order. (that would have been insane!) I'll probably quilt mine in yellow thread with an allover pattern of some sort. I think it finishes out about 65" x 75" - double bed sized.
We also exchange gifts at the December meeting - these girls make some of the neatest things you ever saw. From B - a set of pincushions in a little basket:
From T - a cool handbag filled with dotted fat quarters:
From K - a reuseable market bag (not pictured), with a handmade project caddy, candy, patterns and a recipe card holder:
We try to have a plan or theme for each monthly meeting/sewing day and this year we've put a slight spin on it - since there are four of us, we are each responsible for the themes for one quarter of the year. T has the first quarter and has already given us her plan - in January we will work on a UFO that is over 2 years old (yep, we haz some); in February we are working on UFOs but will swap them at the meeting (so someone else is working on your UFO for the day), and in March we will have a pattern and make our quilts using brown, turquoise, and green fabrics from our stashes. I have the 2nd quarter of the year - so I have a little time to figure out what I want to do. Its going to be a lot of fun - I love sewing with these friends, especially when we do group projects. Everyone has great ideas and we always have a good time.
